COVID-19 surge continues in Fayette during weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette County’s coronavirus surge continued during the weekend with the county recording a combined 145 cases — 82 on Saturday and 63 on Sunday.

The numbers bring the total to 3,400 since the outbreak began in early March, the Lexington Fayette County Health Department reported Monday morning.

Overall, more than half of Lexington’s total COVID-19 cases came during July. Lexington reported 1,702 new COVID-19 cases in July. The city reported 1,553 cases March 8 — the date of the first case in Fayette County — through June 30.

No deaths were reported during the weekend.

In July, 17 deaths tied to COVID-19 were reported, bringing the total during the outbreak to 46.

As of Monday morning, 2,540 people have reported recovering from the virus, an increase of 134 from Saturday morning.
