Troopers said 45-year-old Keith Coffman, of Bowling Green, was westbound in a 2019 Ford pickup towing a trailer. For some reason, Coffman’s truck left the right shoulder of the roadway and the trailer he was towing hit Birdwell and his 1997 Dodge pickup, which was parked in the westbound emergency lane.

A passenger in Birdwell’s truck, 76-yer-old Kenneth Davis, of Columbia, also was flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Part of the westbound lanes of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway were closed for several hours.

KSP Post 15 was assisted at the scene by the Russell County Sheriffs Office, fire, ems and rescue. The collision is still under investigation by Trooper Jason Warinner.
