FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – While lawsuits over the state’s coronavirus-related actions are getting increasing attention, a new poll shows Kentuckians overwhelmingly support Gov. Andy Beshear’s handling of the pandemic, including the mask requirement.
Paid for by the state Democratic Party, the poll, conducted July 7-10 by Garin-Hart-Yang research (see polling memo), shows 69 percent of Kentuckians support Beshear’s handling of the pandemic.
The governor, a Democrat, has support with every major demographic, including 77 percent of Independents, according to the results summary provided by the pollsters.
Also, the poll found 73 percent support requiring masks in indoor settings and some outdoor mass gatherings. That includes 66 percent of Independents and 58 percent of Republicans, according to the results summary.
“Governor Beshear has been willing to make the hard decisions necessary to keep Kentuckians safe during this pandemic,” said Kentucky Democratic Party Chair Ben Self. “ It has been clear since day one that Governor Beshear was committed to putting public health above politics. These poll numbers are a reflection of that reality. ”
