PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A controlled burn to get rid of some old pallets turned into a blazing inferno Wednesday afternoon at an emergency relief center in Pikeville.
The fire destroyed more than $400,000 worth of food items belonging to Thankful Hearts Food Pantry and items belonging to Chain of Love Disaster Relief, according to a report by Jeremy Justice of MountainTop News.
According to his report, the fire initially started at about 1:30 p.m. and spiraled from there as it spread through pallets and then to trucks and other storage boxes.
Pikeville and a number of local fire departments, including a number of volunteers, responded and finally gt the fire put out.
One bystander received minor injuries and was treated on scene by Pikeville EMS, according to Justice’s report

The facilities are located on Adams Road in Pikeville.
