FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Rachel Roberts officially became a state representative Tuesday afternoon, being sworn in representing the 67th House District.
Roberts, a Democrat, won last week’s special election over Republican opponent Mary Jo Wedding.
The win meant Democrats hung on to the seat left open when Democrat Dennis Keene stepped down to join Gov. Andy Beshear’s cabinet as commissioner of the Department of Local Government.
The 46-year-old Roberts, who lives in Newport, is filling the remainder of Keene’s term and will have to run for a full two-year term later this year and could again face Wedding, who is running in the Republican primary for the House seat.
House District 67 includes in the Cincinnati-area suburbs of Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, Highland Heights, Silver Grove, Melbourne, Woodlawn and parts of Southgate.
