LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Bluegrass Community Foundation is celebrating a big accomplishment.
Since starting up in 1967, it’s awarded $100,000,000 in grants.
A news conference was held at the government center Thursday morning with Mayor Linda Gorton proclaiming today: Bluegrass Community Foundation Day.
The foundation has special events planned to show its appreciation. Throughout the day, Cup of Commonwealth and Chocolate Holler each gave away 50 free drinks.
At Kentucky for Kentucky, the first 100 people received a free sticker. On top of that, the organization gave away two tickets to Chris Stapleton’s benefit concert in a social media promotion.
“For us it’s more than just the dollar amount. It’s the stories of impact. It is the grants. It’s the community initiatives. It’s the people that through their collective generosity have made this $100,000,000 in grants possible. And we’re just getting started.”
One person from each of the special events received a one-thousand-dollar giving card to a non-profit of their choosing.
