Former Owsley County High School teacher indicted for sexual abuse


OWSLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A grand jury has indicted a former Owsley County High School teacher on several sexual abuse charges.

The Lee County jury handed down the indictment against James Cornett Friday.

He is charged with having sexual contact with two students – both younger than 18-years-old. Court documents say one incident occurred at Community Christian Church in 2002 and the other at Cortnett’s home in 2003. He is also accused of indecent exposure.

In 2017, court documents also say Cornett tried to bribe two witnesses to delete an incriminating video.
