Republican Party of Kentucky files complaint against McGrath campaign

Amy McGrath

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Republican Party of Kentucky filed a complaint Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission against Democrat Amy McGrath’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

The RPK claims the campaign violated the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 and Federal Election Commission regulations by soliciting campaign contributions that aren’t subject to the law’s limitations, prohibitions and reporting requirements.

In its detailed complaint, the RPK said, “McGrath’s campaign manager, Mark Nickolas, knowingly and willfully solicited illegal soft money contributions for a pro-McGrath super PAC. In his words, ‘people who are interested in contributing beyond the legal limits … should have confidence to contribute to the Super PAC.’” In his role as an agent for McGrath, Nickolas unambiguously and unlawfully solicited funds “in excess of the legal limits” for a super PAC – a direct violation of FECA and FEC regulations, according to the RPK.
