CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man pleaded guilty Monday to assault, manslaughter and DUI charges in connection with a car crash that killed his wife in 2018, according to the News Journal in Corbin.
The newspaper reports 38-year-old Joshua Allen Stopher, of Corbin, took the plea in exchange for a recommended 13-year sentence.
The wreck that killed Stopher’s wife, Charity Stopher, happened in November of 2018.
The newspaper reports Stopher was driving under the influence on US 25 when he tried to make a left turn, crossing into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. His wife, who was a passenger in his car, died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was injured, but survived.
Stopher was arrested in August of 2019.
According to the newspaper, formal sentencing is scheduled for January 27, 2020 in Laurel Circuit Court. Stopher will receive credit for time served.
