GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a man is in custody after insisting on going to jail to be with his girlfriend.
The Garrard County Police Department says 47-year-old Raymund Pace called to report a stolen laptop on January 4 around 7:04 p.m.
An officer went to Pace’s home and police say Pace, who was intoxicated, asked if assaulting an officer would get him five months in jail.
The officer advised Pace against doing that and asked Pace why he wanted to go to jail for five months. Police say Pace told the officer his girlfriend was in jail and he wanted to join her so she wouldn’t be “stressed out.”
Police say the officer advised Pace to go sleep it off, but Pace continued to insist on going to jail and began pushing the officer.
According to police, Pace then reached under his couch and pulled out a baggie containing what appeared to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The officer then arrested him.
While in handcuffs, police say Pace showed the officer storage shelf where he had another bag of suspected heroin and more drug paraphernalia.
Pace was taken to jail.
