FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Voluntary Travel ID is available for Fayette County residents to pick up in Frankfort.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says Fayette County residents, who have a valid driver’s license, permit, or personal ID, may visit the Transportation Cabinet’s driver’s license headquarters in Frankfort to get the upgrade.
Beginning October 1, 2020, only people with a Voluntary Travel ID, which is Kentucky’s version of the REAL ID, will be allowed to board domestic flights, visit military bases and federal buildings.
Traditional driver’s licenses will still be available in circuit court clerk’s offices.
Residents applying for a Voluntary Travel ID card must present valid proof of identity, social security number and two valid proofs of residency.
Officials say the Frankfort driver’s license headquarters can not help applicants who require testing or re-testing. They also say only debit and credit cards are acceptable forms of payment.
