Eastern Kentucky lawmaker will not seek reelection

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Representative Chris Harris says he’s not running for reelection.

The Democrat from Forest Hills, who represented Martin and Pike counties, says it has been an honor to serve for the past six years.

“I cannot thank you enough for having entrusted me with such an awesome responsibility and amazing opportunity,” Harris said in a statement. “Nor can I thank my family enough for their love and support that made this journey possible.”

Harris says he tried to focus his time in office on the working class and standing up against special interests and big businesses.

Among the reasons he mentioned for leaving office, the amount of time the job kept him away from home and family.

That was particularly difficult in the summer of 2018 when Harris’ son suffered a traumatic brain injury after accidentally falling from an apartment balcony in Lexington where he was a student at the University of Kentucky.
