LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Catholic Action Center’s Faith and Community Christmas Store opens Tuesday to ensure every child has a present to open at Christmas.
Before preparations began for the store, 24 years worth of decorations were accidentally thrown away.
There was a Christmas miracle when piles of donations came through the door.
“The community came forth. We said we need decorations. We decided this could be the year of trees and lights,” said Ginny Ramsey, Catholic Action Center Director.
Trees and lights fill the room, but more importantly so do all the donations of toys.
The first time Julie Harding volunteered was 20 years ago. She is the inventory coordinator this year.
“I’ve looked at thousands of toys,” said Julie Harding.
She says the adults get to come to the store and pick out two gifts per child for up to four children.
If you want to get into the Christmas Store you must have a ticket. The ticket will tell you what time you get to shop.
Tickets will be handed out for free beginning on Tuesday, December 17 at 8:00 a.m.
The store will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday this week.
The store is located at Southland Christian Church’s Lexington campus at 2349 Richmond Road.
Donations are still accepted while the store is open and there is a need for gifts for teenagers.
