2019 GoodGiving Challenge raises $1.68 million for local nonprofits


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington has once again shown its philanthropic side, raising nearly $2 million for local nonprofits in the 2019 GoodGiving Challenge.

Organizers say the initial numbers show $1.68 million was raised for 131 local nonprofits during the week-long online giving campaign that launched on Giving Tuesday.

This year’s numbers show not only a 10 percent increase in funds raised, but also an increase in number of people who gave.

The 2019 GoodGiving Challenge featured over $440,000 in matching prizes that increased gifts by as much as 50 to 100 percent.

Since it started in 2011, the GoodGiving Challenge has raised nearly $12 million total for nonprofits. Last year, the challenge raised $1.5 million for 110 local nonprofits through more than 7,500 gifts made.
