LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington police released a new PSA to remind people about the rising number of car thefts this year.

Police say there have been more than 1,900 thefts from cars this year and in November there have been 55 reports of stolen guns from cars in Lexington.

Police say Ronald Hunter is one of four people arrested in the last two weeks for car thefts.

Detectives say they believe he is responsible for hundreds of thefts from cars over the past few months.

The other three arrested were teens.

Police posted a light-hearted PSA video to its Facebook saying, “If the thieves come checking handles in my neighborhood, I simply remember my stolen things and to always lock my doors.”

Police say while the video is meant to be fun, the message is still important and police say you should report any break-ins or suspected car break-ins.
