LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The City of Lexington will not charge the Trump campaign for increased security costs during the president’s planned election-eve rally at Rupp Arena November 4, according to Mayor Linda Gorton.
The mayor says there isn’t a law that allows the city to charge for the additional security or that requires campaign’s to reimburse the city.
Anytime an event at Rupp Arena is expected to draw 10,000 or more people, the city provides increased security.
The mayor says the Lexington Police Department works to minimize overtime costs.
She says the city’s standard is about protection of free speech and safety for all.
