LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people are in serious condition following an accident involving a car and crane.
It happened just after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning near Southland Drive.
According to police a construction worker was directing traffic around a crane that was in the road for a construction project.
Police say the driver hit a construction worker throwing him several feet.
The driver then hit the crane.
Both the worker and the driver were taken to UK Hospital with serious injuries.
Police say the construction worker was wearing a reflective vest.
Police are investigating the accident.
According to the KY Transportation Cabinet, construction zone crashes have up every year since 2012.
In 2018, there were more than a thousand reported crashes.
Three people were killed and 280 people were injured as a result of these crashes.
The KY Transportation Cabinet says distracted driving and speeding are the top two causes of crashes happening in work zones.
