WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – After President Donald Trump said his border wall for the U.S.-Mexico border couldn’t be climbed, not even by the most skilled rock climbers, one Kentucky climber set out to prove him wrong.
Rick Weber, a retired engineer, built a replica of an 18-foot high portion of the border wall. He is now inviting members of the rock climbing community to participate in a competition to see how fast they can scale his replica wall. The wall climbing competition is happening Friday and Saturday near Muir Valley in Red River Gorge and coincides with Rocktoberfest, an event for professional climbers.
A few have already taken a crack at climbing the wall, including an 8-year-old girl, who Weber says scaled the wall without any trouble at all.
Weber also says one man scaled the wall in just 37 seconds by using just a belay rope.
