LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – BelongLex and Kentucky Equal Justice Center are partnering to bring ‘immigrant friendly’ posters to Lexington.

The posters say “immigrants and refugees belong here.”

BelongLex organizer and Atomic Ramen owner Dan Wu and KEJC created the project with financial support from the Bluegrass Community Foundation’s “What You Do Matters” grant.

Wu said he hopes the posters show that Lexington is part of the national immigration conversation even though it is located far from any national border.

“I want people to think about immigrants and refugees and the fact that they have always been a part of our community and they belong here,” Wu said. “BelongLex reframes the conversation in a positive way to make it clear to our immigrant and refugee neighbors that no matter what kind of laws and policies are coming down, the people are on their side.”

There will be an designated distributing time this coming Saturday. Those interested in volunteering to distribute posters around the city can gather at Woodland Park at 11:00 a.m. on September 28.
