LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – Solid Blue Fans are from hours away and they started tailgating Friday night, they even brought some gator bites to get into the gameday spirit.
Robin and David Jones got out of the enemy territory, Louisville, early this weekend to hang with their son, a senior at University of Kentucky.
But they’ve been tailgating at UK since before he was even born, for the last 25 years.
“We love it so much we decided to get an RV and start coming up on Fridays to get the party started early,” Jones said.
This party is a big one.
UK hasn’t beaten Florida two years in a row since the 76-77, season but these fans are feeling confident, despite losing their starting quarterback to injury in last week’s game against Eastern Michigan.
“It’s a huge game okay, so we go to the swamp last year, we beat Florida at their place and you know Terry’s hurt unfortunately but I think we’re going to be okay. I think we’re going to come out and play strong,” Jones said.
The Jones said they’ve made some great friends in the RV lot over the years.
They met Jodi and Lewis Poore who drive their RV seven hours from South Carolina to come watch their son, UK kicker Chance Poore.
“we’re winning. we’ve got a strong quarterback. he looked really last game, in the last quarter he came out and really showed us what he had and gave us a little bit more confidence and we’re going to come out victorious,” Poore said.
The game starts on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. but these solid blue fans say they’ll be bringing the electricity earlier, starting their tailgating around 1 in the afternoon.
