LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Over the past year you may have seen people riding orange ‘Spin’ bikes around Lexington.

As of Sunday, June 30, 2019 the ‘Spin’ bike program is no more.

Spin, the company that owns them, says the e-scooters just make more money.

‘Spin’ bikes were part of a pilot program to introduce ride-sharing bikes and electric scooter to Lexington.

Like a bike, e-scooters have to stay in the bike lane on city roads but on UK’s campus you can ride them on the sidewalks.

According to the Lexington Herald, the city’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator, Scott Thompson, says within two month it was clear Lexington needed local ordinances to control the companies.

With possible fines and other fees suggested as part of the new ordinances ‘Spin’ pulled out.
