LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three kids have been charged after police say they used BB guns to cause property damage in the Meadowthorpe neighborhood.
Lexington police say there were 45 reports of damage and, with the help of the community, police were able to find the young suspects.
On Thursday, detectives got a tip about kids shooting BB guns in the area of Boysenberry Street.
Police found three kids, ages 10-14 years old, and questioned them.
They say the kids admitted to the crimes.
“That’s comforting to know that they followed through,” says Gordon Huffer, who lives in the neighborhood.
Police say the kids were sneaking out of the house, taking the car, and shooting the BB guns.
Police say the parents did not know and are being cooperative.
The kids have been charged with multiple counts of felony and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges.
“Sometimes as kids you think that you’re going to go out and have some fun and you don’t really realize the big picture of the situation,” says Sgt. Donnell Gordon.
Sgt. Gordon says this case proves that the community getting involved does help solve crimes and keep Lexington safe.
