LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A fixture in downtown Lexington has closed its doors after 11 years.
Mamadou “Sav” Savane announced Monday night he was closing his South Limestone restaurant, Sav’s Grill and West African Cuisine.
Savane posted on Facebook, “Sav says THANK YOU LEXINGTON! Sav’s Grill is closed after almost 11 years. Something new is coming. Stay tuned!”
Savane tells the Herald Leader newspaper he plans to open a new Sav’s in September on East Main Street and Old Lafayette Avenue.
In 2014, Savane was badly burned half his body in a cooking accident at his restaurant.
The community’s raised around $60,000 for his medical bills and to help keep the restaurant open.
