LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – George Takei sent out a tweet Thursday afternoon that raised a few eyebrows.
The actor, most famous for his role as Hikara Sulu on “Star Trek,” tweeted that he’s “tempted to move to Kentucky just to run against Mitch McConnell.”
If Takei does follow through, he would have his work cut out for him. McConnell has not lost an election since defeating Walter “Dee” Huddleston for the Senate spot in 1984.
McConnell announced his reelection campaign back in April.
President Trump is likely to campaign for the Senate Majority Leader.
Takei, a left-leaning political activist, would have to take residency in Kentucky to run against McConnell.
Politico reported in February that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was targeting Amy McGrath to run against McConnell.
McGrath ran in for the 6th Congressional District in 2018 against incumbent Andy Barr, who won by less than 10,000 votes.
According to Politico, McGrath is only potential candidate McConnell is preparing to run against.
Election Day is November 3rd 2020.
