Garrard Co. business owner sentenced to almost 6 years for tax fraud

A judge has ruled that Kentucky police coerced a man into allowing officers to search his car, leading to charges including violating a protective order by carrying a gun.

GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)-  A former Garrard County business owner has been sentenced to almost six years in federal prison for tax fraud.

Federal officials say 48-year-old Clarence Michel was responsible for paying employment taxes for six different staffing companies doing business in Eastern Kentucky.

Prosecutors say that from 2012 to 2016, Michel told an employee not to file required tax forms for these companies and not to pay over the employment taxes withheld from employee’s paychecks. The companies failed to pay almost $15 million in owed federal payroll taxes.
