LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-Many Kentuckians have visited Notre Dame Cathedral and are mourning alongside the french after fire destroyed the Cathedral Monday.
The University of Kentucky Chorale was scheduled to perform at Notre Dame just next month on a concert tour of France set for May 5th through 11th.
Director of the Chorale, Jefferson Johnson, says he has conducted at Notre Dame twice before.
“It was an amazing place to sing. Beautiful and majestic beyond words…As musicians we are devastated by the loss of one of the most important churches in the history of western music,” he wrote in a statement to ABC 36.
Johnson says the Chorale will still go on tour next month and will perform at several other cathedrals in France.
He hopes one day his musicians will be able to return to a rebuilt Notre Dame.
