PADUCAH, Ky. (WTVQ) — Referees in Kentucky’s 1st and 2nd Regions are raising money for a youth basketball referee that sheriff’s deputies say was sucker punched by a coach during a game.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Keyon Menifield was having a disagreement with a referee during a basketball game in Paducah.
They say the referee was turning away when Menifield sucker punched him.
They say that referee, Kenny Culp, has a broken collar bone, a cracked sinus cavity, and a concussion with brain bleeding.
They say he is in stable condition at Vanderbilt Hospital.
The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $10,000.
