FRENCHBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Search crews are at the Red River Gorge, working to bring back three hikers who became lost overnight.
According to Powell County Search and Rescue, the mother of two of the hikers called Menifee County 911 around 9 p.m. Wednesday, saying they had not returned from their hike.
Menifee County authorities called in Powell County Search and Rescue. Wolfe County Search and Rescue was also called in to help.
A Kentucky State Police helicopter was also brought in to locate the hikers.
The teams say the hikers, who are ages 15, 18 and 21, were out for a walk, got lost and walked around for several hours, ending up in the Fletcher Ridge area.
Searchers say they have reached to hikers and plan to walk them out, which is expected to take about two hours.
They say none of the hikers are injured, just “wet and cold.”
