LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – In the next 30 hours, Southland Christian Church in Lexington has a goal to pack one million meals for kids in Somalia and Haiti through a program called Meal Pack.
There’s 20 people at every station who fill up bags with rice, soy, dry vegetables, and nutrients.
Each bag serves six meals and the pastor says it takes a little over a minute to pack one bag.
This many bags will be able to feed about 300,000 children one meal every day for a year.
“It’s a great opportunity to just engage our folks and for them to be able to help some children in the world,” said Pastor Mark Perraut.
Southland Christian Church expects around 6,000 volunteers.
Meal packing starts Friday night and goes through Saturday.
