FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A controversial bill involving teachers that brought several hundred people to Frankfort in protest has passed a House committee.
On Thursday afternoon, the House State Government Committee passed HB 525 by a vote of 11-5.
The bill would reorganize the process by which members of the board of the Teachers’ Retirement System of Kentucky to elect its board of trustees.
Kentucky 120 United calls the bill “destructive.”
Teachers across the state staged a “sickout” on Thursday and headed to the capital to protest the bill.
It caused two of the state’s largest school districts to cancel classes.
