Laurel Co. fast food restaurant with confirmed case of hepatitis A

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel County Health Department has confirmed a case of hepatitis A in a food handler at a Taco Bell at 127 Kings Way in London.

The employee was diagnosed January 19, according to the health department.

Health officials say the risk of customers getting infected is very low.

The restaurant is working with the health department to prevent additional cases.

Taco Bell has released a statement regarding the confirmed case of hepatitis A:

“As soon as the operator of the London, KY Taco Bell location learned that a team member tested positive for the Hepatitis A virus, the franchisee began working immediately with Taco Bell and health officials, following all safety protocols. The team member in question is on leave and won’t return to work until cleared by medical professionals.  All team members currently working at this restaurant have been vaccinated, and the restaurant will continue to be thoroughly sanitized.  Additionally, all team members have been retrained on illness policies and procedures. Ensuring the health and well being of our team members and customers is our highest priority, which is why we are taking this matter so seriously.”
