FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – After last year’s construction delay because of weather conditions, Collins Lane Elementary School officially opens today in Frankfort.
According to The State-Journal, the school was originally scheduled to open at the beginning of the school year.
They say because of frigid weather conditions, plus a record year of rain, the deadline was pushed back to the second semester.
The State-Journal reports that the hallways in the new school are color-coded by grade level.
They say the project ended up costing 17 million dollars, which is 2.3 million less than the expected 19.3 million dollars.
The State-Journal also reported that the district considered renovating the existing Collins Lane Elementary school building that opened in 1967, but decided it would not be feasible.
They say the original building is scheduled for demolition later this month.
