VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – A major manufacturer has announced it is closing its factory in Versailles.
LEDVANCE, a glass and lamp manufacturing company, says it started the process of closing the facility on Tuesday, with all production expected to be phased out by September 2019.
The company says around 260 employees will be impacted by the closure.
It says it will begin working immediately with all the employees being affected to support them through the transition.
“The global lighting market continues to move toward solid state lighting, commonly called LED,” the company said in a statement. “This is resulting in diminished demand for such products as fluorescent tubes, traditional BR30 light bulbs and traditional PAR38 flood lights manufactured in the LEDVANCE Versailles Glass & Lamp manufacturing facility.”
The Midwest Distribution Center and R&D Lab in Versailles, which employ approximately 100 employees, is not being impacted, according to the company.
