The city says the apartment building is close to shopping, transportation, and services and will include walking trails and raised community gardens.

The building is part of the Lexington Affordable Housing Program that was created in 2014 to help create affordable housing for households at or below 80 percent of area median income.

The city says 1,400 affordable housing units have been created or preserved in Lexington since the fund was created in 2012.
