GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) — State Police say a Scott County Sheriff’s deputy was shot Tuesday night in Georgetown, in a shootout that left the suspect dead.
According to State Police, the deputy was responding to a complaint on I-75 that led him to a suspect police had already been searching for.
They say it all happened at a rest area near exit 129.
They could not confirm whether the deputy started a traffic stop, but they say when contact was made, the deputy and suspect exchanged gunfire.
They say the deputy was struck and taken to UK Hospital for treatment, but they could not comment on the extent of his injuries.
They say the suspect was killed.
According to police, detectives and federal agents are also working the scene.
