Job Opening: News Producer – WTVQ ABC 36 News (Lexington, KY)
WTVQ ABC 36 News is looking for a dynamic News Producer to join our team in Lexington, Kentucky. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape local news coverage and digital content for Central Kentucky. We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative journalist who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom environment and has a passion for delivering engaging, accurate, and impactful news.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce compelling and well-structured newscasts, selecting and organizing content to create engaging broadcasts.
- Write, edit, and format scripts while ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to AP style and newsroom standards.
- Coordinate with reporters, anchors, and news directors to execute a cohesive and engaging newscast.
- Monitor breaking news and make real-time editorial decisions to adjust newscasts accordingly.
- Develop and manage content for ABC 36’s website and social media platforms, ensuring timely updates and audience engagement.
- Collaborate with digital and broadcast teams to maximize content reach across platforms.
- Implement newsroom best practices for ethical reporting and storytelling.
- Maintain a focus on accuracy, fairness, and balance in all news content.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in producing newscasts, preferably in a television newsroom.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and adapt to changing news situations.
- Familiarity with newsroom production software, content management systems, and social media platforms.
- Understanding of AP style and best practices for web content and social media publishing.
- A strong work ethic, creativity, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
