2015 MLB All-Star Game mustache statue hits auction block
CINCINNATI (AP) – Fans of both baseball and mustaches note: A piece of the 2015 MLB All-Star Game festivities has been put up for auction.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (http://cin.ci/1MbQgHI ) that the opening bid for one of the 21 official All-Star Game mustache statues placed throughout Cincinnati and northern Kentucky is $4,500.
The statues, part of a campaign called “Staches on Parade,” were inspired by the Cincinnati Reds’ mascot Mr. Redlegs – an impressively mustachioed 19th Century ballplayer figure with a giant baseball for a head.
The mustaches were used as promotional tools for the annual festivities hosted this year by Cincinnati. Each statue is about 8 feet wide and 2.5 feet high.
The auction is open through Nov. 16. Proceeds will benefit the Reds Community Fund and its outreach programs.
