#2 Kentucky baseball beats Illinois 6-1, moves to Regional final

Wildcats will play at 6 p.m. on Sunday versus either Illinois or Indiana State

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- #2 Kentucky baseball is moving onto the Lexington Regional final on Sunday after a 2-0 start to the weekend.

The Wildcats beat Illinois 6-1 on a rain soaked day at Kentucky Proud Park in front of over 6,000 fans.

Pitcher Trey Pooser was a major reason that Kentucky now stands within one win away from going to a Super Regional for the second year in a row.

Pooser struck out seven batters, allowed one run and five hits during his seven innings on the mound.

Reliever Ryan Hagenow stepped in for Pooser for the final two innings during which Kentucky added two runs to seal the victory.

The Wildcats will now await the winner of Sunday’s first game at noon between Indiana State and Illinois in the Regional Final.
