Two arrested in box trailer theft in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)-Two individuals face multiple charges after stealing a box trailer.

Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Valero gas station on KY 151 in reference to a possible stolen trailer Tuesday evening.

When deputies arrived, they found a Dodge Pickup occupied by a man and woman.

The truck pulling a 24 foot long white, box trailer with North Carolina plates.

After an investigation, it was determined that the North Carolina plates did not belong to the trailer.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the trailer was in fact stolen out of Elizabethtown on August 19th, 2017.

An investigation concluded that the male suspect, 26 year-old Chase Simpson had lied to deputies about his identity.

He had 5 active warrants out for his arrest.

Both Simpson and the female suspect, 28 year-old Amber Cox, were arrested and charged with multiple charges related to stealing the trailer.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reports that there was a Smith and Wesson handgun recovered from the vehicle.

Deputies believe that the gun may have also been stolen based off of statements made by Simpson.

While in custody, Simpson was found to be concealing suspected Meth in his boot.

The investigation is ongoing by the Franklin County Sheriff Office.

1) Receiving Stolen Property under 10,000 dollars
2) Carrying a concealed deadly weapon
3) Violation of Kentucky EPO/DVO
4) Theft of identity of another without consent
5) Giving officer false identifying information
6) Operating on a suspended or revoked license
7) Display of illegal/altered registration plate
8) Improper Registration plate
9) Failure of non owner to maintain required insurance
10) Possession of Controlled Substance 1st degree, Meth
11) Promoting Contraband 1st degree
Suspect

Amber Cox has been charged with the following
1) Receiving stolen Property Under 10,000 dollars
2) Possession of Controlled Substance 1st degree, 1st offense, Meth
3) Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/possess
4) Tampering with physical evidence.
