2 arrested for drug trafficking in Madison Co.

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people have been arrested in Madison Co., after a deputy discovered drugs in their car on Friday.

According to the Madison Co. Sheriff, a deputy was at the Big Hill Food Mart, when someone notified him of an intoxicated man at the gas pumps.  When the deputy went to investigate, he met the passenger of the car in question, Lymon Vanwinkle, 28, of Richmond.  The deputy says he found an open bag of syringes in Vanwinkle’s pocket.

The owner of the vehicle, 32-year-old Gregory Collins of Berea, appeared to be under the influence, according to the deputy.  The two men consented to have their vehicle searched, which revealed 2 baggies of suspected heroin, along with 3 baggies of suspected methamphetamine.

Vanwinkle and Collins were both arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Collins received an additional charge of public intoxication.

Both were taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
