Animal rescue group needs dog fostering
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Lexington-based animal rescue group is asking the public for helping fostering some animals after 25 dogs were reportedly dumped on the side of a road in Clay County.
Woodstock Animal Foundation rushed to help Friday morning after getting reports that 25 dogs had been dumped along Goose Rock Road near Manchester on Thursday. The foundation says it caught 17 dogs, but unfortunately, three of the animals had been hit and killed by cars before anyone could get to them.
“Very heartbreaking, it’s heartbreaking. You know I woke up at seven this morning and hit the ground running, and it’s really hard on all of us. But we do what we do for the animals. You know we get those because we have a lot of people who are really passionate and loving. We just got on the road and started going,” says Anita Spreitzer, adoption director.
State Police, Clay County Sheriff’s Department, and “Friends of Laurel County Animal Shelter” helped to rescue the dogs.
Right now, the Woodstock Animal Foundation needs help to support the dogs. The group says depending on their health, each dog can cost anywhere from $200 to $1,000. The foundation says there are still five dogs missing, but thinks there’s a chance they may have been picked up by people who were in the dumping area in Clay County. Foundation officials are urging people who may have picked up one of the abandoned dogs to get them to a veterinarian to be checked out.
In the meantime, the foundation is in desperate need for people to foster the rescued dogs. If you’re interested, contact Woodstock Animal Foundation Adoption Director, Anita Spreitzer at 859-544-0698.
