LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- One quarter of bad basketball condemned Kentucky to a 65-58 loss to LSU on Senior Day at home on Sunday.

At halftime, Tigers Flau’jae Johnson and Makaylah Williams had scored three combined points. At the final buzzer, the pair had tallied 34 as Williams provided 24 of them.

A 23-6 run by LSU in the third quarter was the undoing of a great Kentucky performance so far as UK went into the locker room up by 12, 38-26.

The Cats used an 8-0 fourth quarter run and battled for the lead in the final act, but couldn’t hold off the Tigers.

“I thought (LSU) came out in the second half and they wanted it more than we did. It kind of showed when we played. By the time we rebounded from them, we were in a fight. Going down the stretch, they made plays that they needed to make and we didn’t,” said Head Coach Kenny Brooks.

Georgia Amoore was held to 16 points and zero rebounds by the Tigers. Clara Silva was Kentucky’s second best scorer with 12.

Amoore and Silva were the only Cats in double figure scoring. Clara Strack led the team in rebounds with nine.

The battle on the boards was trending towards Kentucky’s favor. At halftime, UK was outrebounding LSU 23-20.

But, in the second half, the Tigers won that category 27-16.

14 Kentucky will look to bounce back against 15 Tennessee on Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m.

“We’re 10-4 with two (games) to go and we’re still in a position where we control our own destiny. I like their fight and we teach to play the game in a certain way and maybe we have to figure out the way that it’s played and adapt,” said Brooks.
