119 Years Later; Former Lex. Police Officer Given Headstone
Henry Clay Magee Jr. was only a Lexington Police officer for a year before dying at age 29 from Typhoid Fever.
Magee was never given a headstone or any kind of symbol in the Magee family plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
That was until Sunday when his descendants and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War finally gave the fallen officer a headstone.
A special ceremony was put on by the Sons of Union Veterans, with more than a dozen of Magee’s living descendants on hand for the unveiling of the stone.
When the group found out that a Lexington Police officer was buried with no stone, they came to the family’s aid using what resources they had along with help from a local monument company to get the stone put in.
Family of Magee say Sunday was an experience they will never forget.
