11-year-old riding scooter dies after being hit by driver, Kentucky State Police say

CLOVERPORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – An 11-year-old riding a scooter was struck and killed by a driver in Breckinridge County Monday afternoon, according to the Kentucky State Police.

The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. on Elm Street near the intersection of Seventh Street in Cloverport, according to a news release from KSP Post 4.

Once on scene, the Cloverport Police Department requested assistance from troopers.

A preliminary investigation found the child was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle.

The child was flown to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child died and was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner at 9:12 p.m., according to KSP.

Police said the driver stopped at the scene and remained there to help the child.

Kentucky State Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information was immediately available.
