Traffic changes for next phase of Capital Plaza Complex project
Frankfort, KY (March 23, 2018) –Following the implosion of the Capital Plaza Tower, construction crews are preparing to start the next phase of the Capital Plaza Complex redevelopment project.
Demolition of the structure over KY 420 (Mero Street) will begin later this month and will require some additional changes to the flow of traffic in downtown Frankfort.
Mero Street will be closed between St. Clair Street and Wilkinson Boulevard beginning Wednesday, March 28. This closure will remain in place until spring of 2019.
During the first phase of work, Mero Street was converted to two-way traffic between High Street and Wilkinson Boulevard. Traffic will return to one direction only between High Street and St. Clair Street.
Clinton Street was also converted to two-way traffic between St. Clair Street and High Street. This traffic pattern will remain in place and the two-way conversion will extend to Wilkinson Boulevard. To accommodate the additional traffic, on-street parking will be prohibited along northbound Clinton Street between St. Clair Street and Wilkinson Boulevard.
Motorists on Mero Street who need to access Wilkinson Boulevard will be detoured to St. Clair Street then Clinton Street. From that point they can access Wilkinson Boulevard (see map below).
The traffic signals at the intersections of Clinton Street with St. Clair Street and Ann Street will continue as all-way stop intersections.
Some sidewalk restrictions may be necessary near the Capital Plaza Complex and Frankfort Convention Center during construction.
Motorists are urged to pay close attention to traffic control signs in this corridor through the duration of the project.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
