Sanders supporters pack Lexington Center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Sanders volunteer George Brosi announced to the crowd, “Kentucky’s motto is; United we stand, divided we fall. I’m proud to present to you the next President of the United States.”
Sanders supporters pack Lexington Center’s Heritage Hall to hear from Bernie.
Bernie leads the crowd asking, “Are you ready for a political revolution.”
It’s a revolution that’s resonating with young voters.
Bernie points to a baby a parent is holding up in the crowd saying, “That is what this campaign is about, that baby.”
Sanders supporter Kyle Savage says “Bernie is saying the right things, and the force is coming.”
ABC 36’s Diane Gerstenfeld concedes, “It is May the 4th that’s true.”
But Sander’s revolution is also ringing true with older folks like George Brosi
Brosi says, ” (Bernie’s) …the candidate that wants to take the money out of politics. To work towards a situation where it isn’t the situation that determines our policies, but rather the will of the people.”
According to ABC News estimates it’s virtually impossible for the Vermont senator to clinch the democratic nomination with solely pledged delegates. But supporters say at the rally “don’t count him out,” he may be able to swing more super delegates to his side.
Sanders supporter Stephanie Kendrick says, “It really isn’t that impossible. I mean super-delegates aren’t in stone yet. Super-delegates can sway until the convention, so we’re going to keep going.”
With wins in 18 states so far, Sanders is hoping to make Kentucky the 20th win after West Virginia.
Sanders says, “Trump does not become president because the American people will never elect a president who insults people everyday in incredibly ugly ways.” The crowd boos.
Sanders says it will be down to a contested convention in July and for many it’s Bernie or bust.
Sanders supporter Nicholas Godbehere says “I think with Hillary’s scandals that have come out recently, I don’t think she’s got much of a fighting chance.”
Whether he wins or loses, Brosi says its about more than the oval office.
“What’s important are the people you see all around you here. People who are determined to try and change the way American politics works.
