LPD asking for help in hit-and-run investigation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is asking the public for information regarding a fatal hit-and-run collision.

In the early morning hours of Friday, April 22, officers were dispatched to New Circle Road near Industry Road/Sunshine Lane in reference to an unresponsive man found lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead by the coroner and identified as Roger E. Morrison, 52, of Lexington.

Using surveillance video from a nearby business, investigators determined that Mr. Morrison was walking in the roadway on the outer loop of New Circle around 4:10 a.m. Friday when he was struck by a dark four-door car. The impact of the collision threw Mr. Morrison forward several feet, and a light-colored passenger car traveling behind the first vehicle swerved to avoid hitting Mr. Morrison’s body.

The car that struck the victim likely sustained damage to the front passenger side and windshield.

Robert Peters walks along New Circle Road a few times a week, to get to the grocery store. “It’s real busy. All that traffic out there, I try to stay away from all that traffic,” he says.

He’s never been hit, but he says he’s had some close calls. “I though he was going to hit me, but I made it across. He took me by surprise, and I was even looking. He was driving real, real, fast down there,” says Peters.

“I see so many people traveling up and down. Some people are homeless people with shopping carts, and the traffic is going so fast,” says Joe Milton, an employee at Purple Haze, right along New Circle.

Lexington Police are asking anyone who might have been a witness or have any information related to this investigation to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (859) 258-3679.
