Officer Daniel Ellis remembered, honored at RPD building re-dedication

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Crowds gathered at the Richmond Police Department to remember Officer Daniel Ellis, killed 5 months ago.

On Friday, the police department building was renamed the Daniel N. Ellis Municipal Building in his honor.

Officer Ellis would have been 34 Friday.

A plaque with the building’s new title was unveiled and is now stationed at the front of the building.

Last November, Ellis was shot and killed in the line of duty while investigating a robbery.

Officer Ellis’ wife, Katie, says the support of the community has helped them through their grief.  His family says they established the Daniel Ellis Memorial Fund to help keep his legacy alive and help others in Madison Co.

Next month, Ellis will be memorialized in Washington, D.C. during National Police Week.
