Mountain Mushroom Festival to kick off Saturday

IRVINE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fans of morel mushrooms and Kentucky agate will get their fill this weekend in Irvine at the Mountain Mushroom Festival.

Organizers say the arts, crafts, and food festival is a celebration of Appalachian culture, with a mission to share the cultural heritage and traditions of the community while supporting local groups, artisans, and businesses.

The 2-day festival boasts plenty of activities and entertainment for the weekend, including mushroom cooking demonstrations, interviews with mushroom hunters, a 5K & 2K walk/run, and the Miss Mushroom Pageant.  Beyond mushrooms, the festival also showcases native agates, as well as other gems, minerals, fossils, and rocks.

Admission to the festival is free.  All events are open to the public and handicapped accessible.

Organizers do say that pets will not be allowed at the festival.
