10-year-old killed, another child recovering after Powell Co. crash

STANTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An accident in Powell County has left one child dead and another hospitalized.

Kentucky State Police responded to the accident on KY 213 around 1:12 p.m. Thursday.

Police say 37-year-old Richard Wachter, of Maysville, was driving on Boone Creek Road when he failed to stop at the intersection and his car was hit by an oncoming truck.

A 10-year-old girl in Wachter’s car, McKayla Lynn Wachter, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

A 6-year-old was also in the car. She was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital with what police describe as non life-threatening injuries.

Wachter was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling where he was treated and released.

Police say roadway conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash.

Friends of the Wachter family are raising money to pay for McKayla Wachter’s funeral expenses.
